  • If someone calls and asks if you have an appointment, we won’t share that information.

If you’re under 14:

  • Your parents or guardians may be able to access some of your health information.
  • If you have concerns about privacy, talk to the nurse, doctor or health worker.

💥Important: The only time we may share information is if we’re worried about your safety or someone else’s safety, or if we’re required to by law.

What Will We Ask You at the Appointment?

We’ll ask a few questions to work out what tests you need.

This may include:

  • The genders of your sexual partners
  • What kinds of sex you’ve had
  • Whether you have any symptoms
  • Whether any partners have told you they have symptoms or an STI

If you are 18 or younger, we may also ask about:

  • Home life
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Alcohol or other drug use
  • Relationships

These questions help us make sure you’re getting the best care and support. Your answers are confidential and you don’t need to share or do anything you don’t want to.

What Happens at the Appointment?

Most sexual health checks are quick and simple.

You may be asked to:

  • Pee in a cup (urine test)
  • Collect your own swab sample
  • Have a blood test

Most people do not need a physical examination.

If you have symptoms, a doctor or nurse may recommend an examination. They will explain everything first, answer any questions and it’s your choice whether you want to go ahead.
